The city is in the process of planning a rapid transit line from the University to the East end, along either King or Main St. This will surely have a big impact on how we get around the city, but it might also have a particularly big effect on Kirkendall, since it might be travelling along the northern border of our neighbourhood. As part of the proposal on the table so far, King and Main would also both be changed back to two-way traffic.
From the city’s website:
The City of Hamilton will provide an update on the status of ongoing rapid transit plans.
The sessions will be drop-in format with brief presentations at 4pm and 6pm each night. Staff will also be in attendance to answer questions. The same information will be presented at all three meetings.
The last of the sessions is next week, downtown:
Central B-Line Location
Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Time: 3 pm to 8pm

There is also a survey that can be completed online to gather input from citizens.

I welcome the plans for rapid transit along the King St. corridor, particularly the light rail option. I am tired of Main St. and King St. being used as a race track by drivers. The noise, the fumes and the speed detract from this lovely neighbourhood. In addition, it will add considerable value to our homes. Bring it on!
