Last weekend’s food drive event collected a busfull of food for Mission Services.
We won’t know how much food or money was collected until early next week but it looked to be two or three times last year’s haul of 4000 lbs. The weather cooperated which was a huge help but most thanks go to our tremendous team of volunteers that did promotion, designed posters, delivered flyers and came out on Saturday to help, as well as all those who donated to the event.
Judy Marsales Real Estate provided the amazing lawn signs which we can use from year to year.
Ray’s Boathouse and the West Town Bar & Grill provided T-shirts which identified the volunteers and they were able to take them home.
Factor-E, Locke St. BIA and Locke St. Merchants Association all made donations to help with our printing costs.
Individuals made donations to cover the cost of pizza at the end of the day.
Thanks to Mayor Fred Eisenberger, MP David Christoffersen and Rick Hiebert of Mission Services for joining in our opening ceremony.
Thanks to Upper James Toyota who loaned us two trucks and drivers, a tremendous help, to the Spectator for their great article and ads on the drive and of course to Hamilton Street Railway who again loaned us a bus and a driver, Paul, who no longer lives in Kirkendall but intends to keep working with us.
And thanks to Zarkys, Dell Pharmacy and Mr. Tonys for having bins to collect food.
If anyone’s food was not picked up, please let us know and we will come and get it and if there were any other problems, let us know. And again, thanks to all the volunteers who made all the difference.
Our next drive will be the first Saturday of May, the 1st in 2010: mark it down and we’ll see you then!
