Hello Kirkendall.
Many of us are in the habit of walking, cycling or driving to the Commercial Plaza at 50 Dundurn St., known as Fortino’s plaza, and most of us probably go through the Main and Dundurn intersection to get there most of the time. If you think about it for just a moment, that intersection is source of serious problems. It is, according to traffic engineers, a frequent collision and injury site.
The City of Hamilton is currently in the process of reviewing the plan for managing traffic in the Strathcona neighbourhood, which includes the intersection of Main and Dundurn. Attention has been elsewhere, but there is still time to send comments in about what might work at that corner.
The issues are complex, and there will likely be future public meetings for both residents of Kirkdendall and Strathcona to discuss the possibilities, but in the meantime, if you have any ideas about how to make the corner safer and more functional for everyone, here’s the person to receive them:
