A message from the office of Brian McHattie:
Hamilton Police Service report that their GPS – Graffiti Prevention Strategy is now up and running for the summer. Four students have been hired and are currently being trained. They will be on the job until Friday, August 29, 2008.
The GPS team is asking for your assistance to determine where graffiti is located, regardless of whether it is on privately owned, city owned or publicly owned property.
The team will assess all locations and clean as many as they are able. Graffiti which is too difficult to clean will be forwarded to the appropriate stakeholder for clean up.
Please forward the location of any graffiti (be as specific as possible) to Sergeant Jo-Ann Savoie at jsavoie@hamiltonpolice.on.ca.
All locations submitted to Jo-Ann before Wednesday, May 28 will be considered for designation as a “Rapid Removal Wall” and thus eligible for additional surveillance. Once the GPS team cleans one of these sites, they will check it daily to ensure it remains clean. If it gets “tagged” again, they will remove it within 24 hrs. The concept is that if graffiti is removed quickly, it will not re-occur as frequently.
Thank you for your assistance with this project!
