Tree Planting at Highland Gardens/The Res on Oct. 14

A message from Brian McHattie’s office:

As part of the Trees Across Hamilton Initiative, Brian has been working with the forestry department to find a way to plant trees at Highland Gardens Park/The Res.

A tree planting morning has been organized for Saturday, October 14, starting at 10 am. Approximately 200 trees will be planted by community volunteers, assisted by City Staff.

Volunteers are asked to bring (if possible) a shovel, bucket (for mulch) and gloves, water, sunscreen, hat etc. and wear work boots or hard soled boots or hard soled shoes.

The meeting place will be at the entrance to the park on Mountain Ave., next to the stairs.

Note that the Ministry has still not made a decision on the bump-up request for the H3 Water Pressure District EA.

Hope to see you there.

Don’t leave anything of value in your car

The Kirkendall neighbourhood appears to be experiencing a rash of vehicle break-ins. I have personal knowledge of three of these break-ins: our next-door neighbour on Jackson, our vehicle on Jackson, and just last night a vehicle belonging to a friend of mine just north of Aberdeen.

In each case, there was no signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle. The thieves rifle through the belongings in the vehicle and take anything they can find of value, which is typically whatever is kept in the glovebox. (In each case they have left insurance and registration papers alone.)

We reported this incident to police and suggest you do the same if it happens to you.

One of our neighbours saw a pair of young men casing cars on our street, one on the sidewalk, the other on the other side of parked vehicles, riding a bright yellow bicycle (look for it!) One of them was “very thin”, she said. They slowly traveled up the street, looking inside the cars as they went. “That’s a new one,” one of them remarked as they passed a car not usually parked around here.

Keep on the lookout for suspicious activity in the hood!
